As we say goodbye to the month of August it is time for the latest (photo packed) installment of The Hunters Gathering. We have some cool new stuff to talk about as well as some updates on information we have previously discussed over the course of the year so far. Of course, you’re always encouraged to connect with us more directly via our Community Forums and our presence on social media via any of our official accounts: Hunters Entertainment on Facebook, Outbreak: Undead on Facebook, ABCs of RPGs on Facebook, or Hunters Entertainment on Twitter.
With that out of the way we can get rolling right along to all the news.
Events & More
Gen Con 50 Retrospective – What an absolutely amazing time at Gen Con! To start things off here we would like to simply say, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you so much to all you wonderful folks who visited us at the booth, played in our official sessions, or just took some time out of the day to simply chat with us for a bit. We couldn’t ask for a better community, and we are deeply humbled. As always it was simply an outstanding experience.
Now for the convention itself. From the very first moments, Gen Con 50 was truly something very special. With a record breaking attendance you all stormed the vendor hall the very first day right at opening. Just look at this proverbial sea gamers.
That is just an impressive sight to see, and to be honest the photos can’t even begin to do justice to just how crazy this flood of people actually is. As we have said, those who decided to pay us a visit were able to stop on by our booth in the Vendor Hall that we had setup once again. We had both The ABCs of RPGs and Outbreak: Undead.. products on hand for anyone that wanted to be able to pick up a copy of something.
There was even a visit by one the Rag & Bone Men at the booth, and that meant a trade opportunity for members of Pandemic Play. We hope you were able to get your hands on some helpful Gear this weekend to make you survival chances that much better. We also had a few con exclusives available for Survivors who were interested, including early access to the print copy of the Gamemaster’s Companion with updated content, tubes of the official Hunters d5! Dice, and set of Acrylic Degree of Success and Failure Tokens. It seemed like a never ending supply of fun an interesting things all weekend long at the booth.
Then of course we had our fine selection of children’s content available for all the Younglings who happened by (or Guardians who just wanted to enjoy themselves – we don’t judge, we love it too). Certainly we couldn’t leave them out of all the fun and joy! Fresh copies of the Children’s Book and the Activity Book were on hand, and as a special con exclusive anyone who made a purchase was given a free and adorable button to take with them (while supplies lasted of course). Many of you embraced your classes as Fighters, Rangers, or Wizards.
Beyond all of that, we regularly had members of our development team on hand to talk to the community. It was fantastic having an opportunity to connect with you face to face. Of course those wanting an autograph or just a quick photo were accommodated happily as well, did a lot of signing and photo taking over the weekend!
That wasn’t all for cool things going on at the booth this year. No, this time around we had a couple of special guests pop on by and hang out with us for awhile. Yep, that’s right, Becca and Amy from Geek & Sundry were around and hanging out with us from time to time. Thanks to both for making the experience of our community that much more exciting during their visits, and for just being generally great people all around.
Beyond all of the excitement we had going on at the booth in the Vendor Hall, that wasn’t the only stuff we had up our sleeves for the weekend. I mean, we make games so it would seem a little silly if we were to show up and not also run some games, wouldn’t it? Well, thankfully we don’t have to stress too much on that question because we came out in force with events galore! Just take a look at some of these great shots we got of the team running some Outbreak: Undead.. for our awesome community of Survivors.
In fact, we had so many events going on that we couldn’t do them all with just the development team alone. Thankfully we had a wonderful team of volunteer Gamemasters join up with us to help cover all of the great stuff we had on offer. As such, we would like to offer a big thank you to Kim Morrison, Brittany Wheless, Tom Kolassa, and Brian Greene for helping out and giving our community great gaming experiences over the weekend. Just look at how great of a job they did!
All in all it is hard to really appropriately describe just how awe inspiring our community is, or just how lucky we are to have you supporting us! Every year you make Gen Con an amazing experience for us, and we hope that we help make your own experience that much greater.
A special final thank you to our contributing photographers for the event, Samanatha Huilman and Tino Marquez, for getting all of these fantastic shots for us!
AetherCon VI Online – The fun doesn’t stop for 2017 just yet, as we’re going to be participating in the #1 Online Gaming Convention around – AetherCon! Be sure to join us for AetherCon VI coming up on November 10-12. We’ll be setting up a vendor booth for people to come check out, and at various times (schedule pending) we should even be live in the booth via Google Hangouts to give you a chance to chat with us. Outside of the booth we are also going to be running a few sessions of Outbreak: Undead.. if you’d like to have a chance to play the game with the creators. Finally, to top it all off we are also contributing a fair bit of stuff to include in the vast amounts of prize packages that are available for you to win in many different ways. We’re very excited to be able to participate this year as it provides us with a unique opportunity to connect with fans who might not otherwise be able to make it to the conventions we attend across the U.S. each year.
So if you missed out on seeing us at Gen Con 50, no need to fret because this is your next big opportunity to connect up with us and have a blast!
Announcements & Teasers
ABCs of RPGs ENnie Award – What can we honestly say? Thank you so much for your support everyone! Thanks to your votes, The ABCs of RPGs was awarded the Silver Medal for the category of “Best RPG Related Product” this year at Gen Con! This was a very humbling thing for us, and we are still a bit in shock. You really never cease to amaze us with all of your love and support. It is crazy to think that both of our product lines are now award winning ones, we can’t tell you at all how grateful we are for everything you do for us. A big congratulations to the guys behind the project, Ivan Van Norman and Caleb Cleveland, for all their success so far! This has been truly humbling (seem to be saying this a lot lately, but it is true) – thank you, thank you, thank you!
We sort of forgot to grab photos from the Gathering of the Younglings event this year, we do apologize about that. Thanks to everyone who came out to Lucas Oil Stadium to spend some time with us and get your coloring on!
The Chronicles of Exandria Volume 1 – Well now, Critters, if you happened to miss this announcement over Gen Con weekend then get ready for some really exciting news. Hunters Books will be publishing the official Critical Role art book entitled The Chronicles of Exandria Volume 1: the Tale of Vox Machina! What makes this even better is the fact that you won’t have long to wait to get your hands on the final product as it is coming Fall 2017. Believe us when we say it has been crazy difficult trying to keep this one under wraps for as long as we needed to, and we’re super excited to be able to let you know all about it! Take a quick look at these details to learn some more.
Finally, we just want to take a moment to welcome all of your Critters to the Hunters Books community – we’re super excited to have you join us in support of all the greatness that is Critical Role!
Outbreak: Undead.. 2nd Edition Kickstarter – We know that everyone has been chomping at the bit for some more details about the Outbreak: Undead.. 2nd Edition Core Books and when they can expect them. Well, we are happy to announce that the Kickstarter for getting these finish off will be coming in mid September! That’s right, in just a couple short weeks you’ll be able to help make the Core Books become a fully realized product and get the printers going. A lot of hard work has gone into addressing feedback from our current offerings, updating more content from the 1st Edition to 2nd Edition, and including brand new content never before available in the game. Of course this will still include some final production time to finish off the art and final editing before going off to print, so if you want to get a jump start on 2nd Edition be sure to grab the Starter Kit and Gamemaster’s Companion today! No worries, they will still make a handy table reference once you have the full Core Books in your hands as well.
Gamemaster’s Companion Updated & Print – Those of you who were in attendance at Gen Con were able to get early access, but now we are opening things up so everyone can get their hands on a print copy of the Gamemaster’s Companion 2nd Edition via Print on Demand from DTRPG! Be sure to pop over now and grab yourself a copy today so you can further enhance your world building for casual games or even Pandemic Play (the content is viable across the board). It is also important to note that the book has been updated to include some additional content, so if you picked up the PDF in the past be sure to swing back through and grab the updated copy.
House on the Hill Digital Download – It is finally time for the classic to come to 2nd Edition and for you to have it in your possession to run for friends and family in the comfort of your own homes. We are making this fan favorite Scenario available in PDF format through DTRPG, and even better it is “Pay What You Want”! Take it for free or throw us a little to simply show your support and appreciation – either way it is all good to us. We are just tossing in a little bit of extra bonus content quick before putting it up, but just keep your eyes on the Hunters Books section of DTRPG over the course of the day to get it when it goes live!
